Hosts Alliance

Many homes. One voice.

By hosts, for hosts.

Hosts Alliance is the independent association of short-term rental hosts. Free to join, not funded or influenced by any platform, and accountable only to its members.

Our manifesto

Without hosts, there is no short-term rental. We are the ones who open our homes, welcome guests, clean, maintain, invest and take the risks. Platforms connect people; we are the ones who host them.

Platforms cannot exist without us. Their commissions, their business model, their very existence: everything depends on us, a fragmented community with no voice and no recourse. For too long they have used that to dictate the rules alone, with only their own interests and those of their shareholders in mind. Enough!

The rules that govern our work change without us. They are decided on the other side of the world, applied everywhere in the same way, and announced in a simple email. Today, our complaints are scattered: forums run by the platform itself, Facebook groups, isolated petitions, messages to support. So many individual voices, so easily ignored by the platforms.

Hosts Alliance exists to change that. It is meant to be the voice of hosts, and theirs alone.

Alone, we protest. Together, we negotiate.

Our first campaign: the new house rules

From 20 November 2026

For bookings made from 20 November 2026, Airbnb bars hosts from asking guests to strip the beds, wash and put away the dishes, take rubbish off the premises, or do other tasks usually done by a cleaner. The rule applies worldwide, to every host, and was decided without consulting us.

Many hosts keep their cleaning fees low precisely because guests spend a few minutes on these tasks. Without them, cleaning fees will rise and guests will pay more: the opposite of the stated goal.

It is common sense. Guests choose a short-term rental over a hotel above all for the price. That price is only possible because hosts keep their costs down, while the platforms take their commission and keep pushing hosts to lower their rates. Every extra cost imposed on hosts ends up on the guest's bill, or eats into an income that is already squeezed.

We are asking Airbnb to:

  • target real abuse, instead of penalising every host for the excesses of a few;
  • allow a few light tasks when they are shown before booking and the cleaning fee is moderate;
  • consult hosts before changing the rules that govern their business.

What we stand for

Independent
No funding from any platform, and none of their representatives on our board. It is written into our statutes.
Open to all
Membership is free. Individuals or professionals, one listing or fifty: every host belongs here.
Democratic
Our positions are our members' positions. We consult you before every important statement.
Constructive
We are not against platforms or guests. We stand for fair, transparent, reasonable rules, and for hosts being consulted before they change.

Who we are

Hosts Alliance was founded in 2026 by short-term rental hosts in France. It is independent: no platform funds it or sits on its board.

It is run by volunteers, hosts themselves, alongside their own listings. It is open to hosts in every country, whatever platform they use and however many homes they rent out.

Questions

Is membership really free?

Yes, with no fee now or later. The alliance relies on voluntary donations and the time its members give.

Is Hosts Alliance against Airbnb?

No. We want fair, transparent rules, and hosts consulted before they change. Our members use Airbnb, Booking.com, Vrbo and others.

Who is behind it?

Hosts. The alliance is being set up in France as a non-profit association. Its statutes forbid any funding from a booking platform.

Is it only for France?

We are starting in France, but platform rules are global. Hosts from every country are welcome.
